Dr. Allen Hoang

Oh hey, I’m Dr. Allen Hoang!
My parents began their journey from Vietnam to the United States. They made a stop in Hong Kong, and that’s when baby Allen (me!) entered the scene. Many trials and many miles later, we miraculously ended up in Oakland, California. My home.
Growing up in East Oakland gave me so many memories, like watching the Warriors with my brothers at Oracle Arena or walking from Franklin Elementary to the library across the lake. I was a curious kid who always wanted to find out more about the world with science. As I got older, I started to ask myself, “How can I give back to the community that gave me so much?”
During my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis, I started looking for an answer to that question. And soon enough, I found one in dentistry. Before I knew it, I was a Pre-Dental Student Advisor, helping other pre-dental students find internships at local private practices and community clinics.
So I found my passion. Next stop? Get a formal dental education. During my time at the Western University of Health Sciences, I built strong relationships with my neighbors in Los Angeles County and realized the positive impact oral care can have on a community.
After 11 years working at a local dental office, first as an assistant then as a dentist, the homesickness hit! I was eager to get back to Oakland to provide a different kind of dental experience to the community that raised me.
My goal with eso dental is to change the stigma around going to the dentist—to give patients an experience that makes them feel hopeful and excited, not fearful. So here, we listen to you. We offer support and create a unique path for each individual. Because I believe the best dental services are the ones that are right for you!
On my off days, I’m soaking up the natural beauty of the Bay Area—sometimes surfing, sometimes hiking on the beautiful northern coast! Oh, and I strongly believe that simple pleasures like making fresh pizza or tending to my garden are much better with a glass of wine in hand.

Dr. Ashley Cheng
ASSOCIATE DENTIST · DDS, MPH
Hi, I’m Dr. Ashley Cheng — so glad you’re here!
My love for dentistry started back in elementary school, when I actually looked forward to my dental visits. I’ll let you in on something a little odd: I was secretly envious of my brother when he needed fillings, because I wanted to try out all those cool tools myself! That same curiosity has never left me — to this day I’m a bit of a nerd about keeping up with every new advance in dentistry.
I studied Public Health and Global Poverty at UC Berkeley, where I proudly played piccolo in the Cal Band (Go Bears!) and volunteered as a Dental Coordinator at the Berkeley Free Clinic. From there I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco — founding our campus chapter of the American Association for Public Health Dentistry, serving as ASB Vice President, and graduating with the Public Health Leadership Award and a clinical distinction scholarship.
My passion for access to care then took me to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health for a Master of Public Health, focused on healthcare management and dental access. Along the way, I helped launch a non-profit dental clinic right here in Oakland for families who needed it most. My spouse and I later spent time in Seattle, where I worked in both private practice and community health and helped lead the Seattle King County Dental Clinic — the largest community-driven free dental clinic of its kind in the country.
Now my family and I are back home in the Bay Area, and I couldn’t be more excited to join Dr. Hoang’s team. We share a belief in comprehensive, personalized care — and what I love most is building long-term relationships and helping you feel empowered to make informed decisions about your health.
